So!! I watched the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who about a half an hour ago...so I'm going to ramble for a bit, to test out LJ cuts, I guess.  I completely blew off study to watch it, which isn't good with Irish orals next week. But do I care? Nope, so here we go!

It was freaking awesome. It's sad, really, I've been waiting for it since Season 3 ended, and I didn't even know what date it was on until today!! I would have been SO pissed if I had missed it, and I only just caught it today!! Plotline - again, heavy spoilers ahead -

So, the first part of the episode is basically Donna and the Doctor investigating a company called Adipose, and completely missing each other in a ridiculously slapstick manner that actually works. They had this whole popping up and down thing in office cubicles that was like something out of an eighties comedy thing, and a point where they're literally brushing past each other, and you know that they're not going to meet yet. But you're still going "Oh, come on!!". Lol.

And Catherine Tate brings such a brilliant comic element to the show. You can obviously tell she's a comedienne, and so many of the "Catherine Tate Show" characters are apparent throughout the episode. Donna's relationship with her Grandad (the newpaper guy from the Christmas special, by the way!) is really great. He hasn't got a clue of what's going on in her life, but he tries really hard to support her anyway.

It's also great to see a companion for the Doctor that's not romantically inclined towards him. Martha was referenced when Donna's asking what the Doctor did with himself. He says he ruined her life, admits he knew she had a crush on him; but still Donna tells him that he's better now then when she met him first, and tells him that Martha was good for him. He agrees, and looks really sad for a moment. Now, I'm a hopeless Doctor/Martha fan, and I think she was really underappreciated, so this was a fantastic tribute. I'm really looking forward to seeing Freema Agyeman back on the show again, romantic connotations aside. Donna's good for the Doctor, a mate instead of a crush(and there's a fantastic part where the writers explore the connotations of that :-)) but Martha's still the Doctor's doctor!!

What I do want to know, though, is what the hell Rose was doing at the end of the episode?!? I thought she wasn't coming back until the Season Finale!! There's a wonderful scene where Donna picks a random stranger from the middle of the street to tell her mum where the car keys are: when you can only see the back of a blonde head, you're like... no way. There's no way. But way! She just kind of walks down the road around a corner, and fades into nothing. I want to know what's happening now!! And she looks so sad... kind of desolate. I guess I was kind of hoping she would do what SJS couldn't, and get on with her life without thinking about the Doctor. As much as I prefer Martha, Rose is a wonderful character, but I guess if she moved on they couldn't bring her back, could they??

Ok, then, I suppose that's it. If anyone stumbles their way across this and wants to let me know what they thought of the episode, or what they think of the new season, what they're looking forward to, etc, you're completely welcome to comment me!!
